Jorge Cuchí and Arie Socorro team up for “The Other Alice”, a bold new vision of horror

Mexican filmmakers Jorge Cuchí and Arie Socorro have joined forces to co-direct La Otra Alicia, a psychological and body horror feature film developed and produced by Wabi Entertainment (WE).

The project explores the limits of love, identity, and bodily transformation, combining psychological tension with a visceral narrative. Its origins can be traced back to Déjala Ir (Let Her Go), a horror short film directed by Socorro that premiered at the Morelia’s International Film Festival in 2015. Inspired by elements of that earlier work, both filmmakers set out to construct a completely new narrative within a genre they deeply admire.

La Otra Alicia marks a significant milestone for both directors. It represents Socorro’s feature film debut, while Cuchí delves into horror and body horror for the first time, approaching the genre from a bold and personal perspective. The film also reunites them with a production team that is now part of Wabi Entertainment, responsible for acclaimed titles such as 50 (or Two Whales Meet on the Beach), which premiered at the Venice Critics’ Week, and A Bad Actor, nominated for five Ariel Awards.

Set in a contemporary and seemingly controlled world—an elegant hotel, refined restaurants, and quiet apartments—La Otra Alicia gradually transforms its sophisticated environments into spaces of confinement and confrontation. In this setting, three characters are forced to confront each other and reveal their true identities. The film’s terror is not based on jump scares or visual tricks, but on a mounting tension rooted in a fundamental fear: the impossibility of fully trusting a loved one.

By bringing together two complementary creative voices—one rooted in contemporary Mexican cinema and the other deeply connected to horror and fantasy—, La Otra Alicia seeks to take the genre to an emotional, visceral, and profoundly human space.
